September 9th, 2010Canon 5D mkII 7D & T2i – Video DSLR camera reviews
September 8th, 2010Stalman Talks Photography – Episode 4, Part 2 stalman.ca An overview of the top three video DSLRs out right now from Canon – the 5D markII, 7D and T2i. A tough choice, and each of these cameras has it’s roll to play. By the way, this video was shot on the T1i, and it was a terrible experience. Moire, artifacting, auto white balance and exposure changing mid scene, it drove me up the wall. Great for stills, not so great for video. Thanks to thecamerastore.com for loaning their demo model of the T2i, as of this writing they are hard to get a hold of around here. Digital SLR Camera Overview
July 29th, 2010

are reflex camera (SLR) cameras have been around for over sixty years. Within the last fifteen years, they have moved into the digital age. This has coincided with the rapid technological progress with many of the major manufacturers such as Canon, Nikon and Olympus now offers a full range of digital SLR cameras, from entry level right up to full professional kits. This article describes the main advantages of digital SLR cameras as well as pointing out some of the disadvantages.
How manyof you know, an SLR camera on the principle uses a mirror and pentaprism in the viewfinder to show the images are based. This precise definition is one of the main advantages of the digital SLR cameras, compared to others – what you see is exactly what you get. Digital SLR cameras also provide for precise metering through the lens. This allows a more accurate adjustment of exposure by the camera (in one of the many automatic modes available), or the representation of the exactInformation on exposure to the photographer, so that they can make decisions.
Digital SLR cameras are very versatile and offers a variety of modes such as point and shoot (Dial-up options such as landscape or sports available with), to full manual operation, where the photographer has control of the important variables such as aperture and shutter speed. Most offer several options for light metering, have several options for automatic focusing as wellthe ability to disable this one and manual focus mode, and come with features like image stabilization and built-in flash (with a hot shoe for external flash options). These cameras have extensive in-built operating system with an LCD screen enables linked checking and management of photos. All provide a good inter-connectivity to computers so that data (image) transfer and management of photographic libraries.
Even entry-level SLR cameras offer unmatchedShutter speeds (eg, the Canon 1000D offers 1 / 4000 shutter speed) and continuous shooting modes (usually included in frames per second). Many of these features were sought only on high-end professional models (with high-end price tags) 10 years ago. Coupled with technological advances, has dramatically increased image resolution and battery life is dealing with most rechargeable lithium-ion batteries has improved. Camera body and the associated lenses have reduced in size andWeight, making digital SLR cameras more portable and usable.
Perhaps the best known feature of the digital SLR camera is its ability to exchange different lenses, depending on the type of photography undertaken. These can range from wide angle nature (good for landscape shots) to telephoto lens (for large, wild animals and sports shots). Lens only takes a few seconds, and this versatility has been exacerbated by the wide range of advanced ZoomLenses available that can cover a focal length range.
The cost of these cameras is reduced dramatically by them within the reach of many consumers. Clever design from companies like Canon and Nikon facilitate the migration of many users into the digital SLR era, by the look and feel of their pre-digital SLR systems. People did not learn a new system from scratch.
On the downside is, digital SLR cameras are more expensive than other options such asas compact cameras and this remains a factor in some decisions when purchasing. Despite the size and weight reductions, they remain more than bulky and coupled with several lenses often require a special bag. They also tend to be more noise than other photographic opportunities, allowing them unsuitable for some applications.
Despite these factors, digital SLR camera remains the first choice for many professionals and lovers of photography. Their undeniable versatility and adaptability, the majority of users, high-quality results from their efforts to obtain.
